As an organization gets larger there can be a tendency for the “institution” to dampen the “inspiration.” How can this be mitigated?
The leaders are responsible for creating a culture that promotes inspiration. As a leader, I need to be passionate about my work, display a positive and optimistic outlook, be forward thinking, communicate goals and strategies, and embrace change. It starts at the top.
What advice would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time?
Practice patience, continue to learn and grow, manage expectations, own your mistakes, respect all people and never talk down to anyone, don’t ask someone to do something you would not do, and always keep the end goal in mind.
How do you measure success?
Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. In my career, I measure success by setting a goal, planning the steps or processes required to achieve the goal, and then implementing the plan. To me personal success is the constant striving for emotional growth.
