Jie Zhu, CPA, Nominated as a CalCPA ‘Woman to Watch’

Jie Zhu standingWe are proud to announce that our very own Jie Zhu, PP&Co Partner, is a candidate for the CalCPA ‘Women to Watch’ award.  CalCPA, in conjunction with the AICPA and its Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee, has created this award to identify women who make significant contributions to the accounting profession, and/or who demonstrate the ability to lead and inspire other women in the profession. Recipients of the award will be announced at a networking luncheon during the CalCPA Women’s Leadership Forum.

The event will be held on April 29th at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, a Four Seasons hotel. Winners will also be featured in various publications and may be invited to local events to participate as panelists to discuss strategies for achieving success in the profession.

Nominees fall into two categories – Experienced Leaders and Emerging Leaders. Jie, a Partner since July of 2013, has been nominated in the ‘Emerging Leaders’ category. Those in this group are defined as professionals who have made significant contributions to the profession and to their communities, yet are still progressing to the highest levels of achievement in the field.

To make the cut, nominations required supporting evidence of candidates’ contributions to both the profession and their communities, along with at least one letter of recommendation describing why nominees should be considered. Contenders in the ‘Emerging Leaders’ classification shall have made significant contributions in more than one category of accomplishment:

Public and/or community service

  • Demonstration of leadership
  • Contribution to the profession
  • Creation and implementation of unique initiative(s)
  • Involvement with alma mater or other local colleges and universities

Marc Parkinson, PP&Co Managing Partner, is pleased by the nomination. “Jie has done so much for the firm and certainly deserves the recognition. I’m proud to be her partner and enjoy working with her and watching her grow.” Of having been nominated, Jie had this to say: “It is an honor to be recognized for my efforts, both at the firm and in the community. I find accounting equally challenging and appealing, which drives my commitment to colleagues and clients alike.”

According to their website, the Women’s Leadership Forum “inspires and empowers women at all levels of the accounting and finance profession.” It is fitting, then, that Jie has been nominated for an award sponsored by such an organization since she, too, endeavors to inspire and empower women – at PP&Co and beyond.
